The loss of a beloved pet is one of the most painful experiences in our lifetimes.  Those who care about us during this time of great grief try to find the right words.  Those words are hard to find.  We hope that the words and poetry of others who have bravely endured this pain will bring some comfort.   You are not alone.

If you are struggling with the loss of your pet, please watch this video.  It expresses how your pet feels about the life you have shared.  Your time together was precious.

"Grief is the Price of Loving"
Dr. Leo K. Bustad

People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life - like loving everybody all the time, and being nice.
Dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.
Dogs are angels.  They are gifts from God sent to comfort us, and to teach us how to love.

But we dont get to keep them.

Just like angels, they are so perfect, and they do their job so well, that they soon are called back to Heaven.

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak,

And pain should keep me from my sleep,

Then will you do what must be done,

For this, the last battle, can't be won.

You will be sad I understand,

But don't let grief then stay your hand,

For on this day, more than the rest,

Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,

You wouldn't want me to suffer so.

When the time comes, please, let me go.

Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,

Only, stay with me till the end

And hold me firm and speak to me,

Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree,

It is a kindness you do to me.

Although my tail its last has waved,

From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must be you,

Who has to decide this thing to do;

We've been so close, we two, these years,

Don't let your heart hold any tears.
