Wellness Exams

Annual wellness exams help our veterinarians catch potential health problems in your pet before they become more serious and costly. Annual exams serve as the foundation of your pet's overall health and wellness.

At Deer Run Animal Hospital our wellness exams include:

  • A thorough examination by one of our professional veterinarians.
  • Vaccinations.
  • Early detection bloodwork, heartworm/tick borne disease screening, and/or fecal screening.
  • Advice of any findings in your pet’s examination or any questions and concerns you may have regarding your pet.

Our Wellness Plans offer essential veterinary services that are important to your pets overall health and wellness including exams, vaccinations, and testing. Preventative care is the key to better health for you pet as they age a lot faster then we do. These plans are designed to help make preventative care affordable.

Dog Vaccines

Vaccines are an incredible ally in keeping your dog happy and healthy. You can read about the most common vaccinations for dogs below, and at the very bottom bottom is a typical vaccine schedule.

Distemper Vaccine (DHPP)
Protects again four diseases: Distemper,Hepatits, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus. All four can be contagious, make the pet become very ill, and can be potentially fatal.

Rabies
Rabies is a virus that can be fatal and can bespread to humans. This vaccine isrequired by law and given by a veterinarian with current annual wellness exam.

Leptospirosis (Lepto)
This is a bacterial infection that is mostcommonly found where dogs may encounter any type of standing water orslow-moving water. It is also contagiousto humans.

Bordetella (Kennel Cough)
Bordetella helps reduce the chance of a dogcontracting this contagious air borne virus most commonly found in kennels, dogsparks, etc.

Canine Influenza
This extremely infectious disease primarilyinfects the respiratory system, producing coughing, sneezing, fever, and othersymptoms.

Lyme Vaccine
Lyme disease is a common tick-transmitteddisease. Affected dogs may exhibit recurrentlameness due to joint inflammation, as well as lack of appetite & depression.

Fecal Testing
This is a screening for intestinal parasiteswhich can be transmitted to other pets or humans.

Heartworm/Tick Borne Disease Testing
Heartworm disease is transmitted by mosquitoeswhich can be prevented by monthly prevention. It can be potentially deadly if a dog does have heartworm disease. This also tests for 3 different type of tickborne diseases Lyme, Ehrlicia, & Anaplasma. These diseases can be transmitted by infected ticks to humans as well.

Wellness Blood Screening
Depending on the age of the pet, we mayrecommend different screening panels that may include Chemistries, CBC,Thyroid, and Urinalysis.

Heartworm Prevention
HeartgardPlus is a monthly chewable to help protect against heartworm disease as well asroundworms & hookworms. We recommendgiving it year round. It is cheaper toprevent heartworm disease rather than treating this potentially fatal disease.

Flea & Tick Prevention
We carry 2 types of flea & tick preventionfor your convenience. Nexgard a monthlyoral chewable for fleas & ticks or Vectra a monthly topical for fleas & ticks which also helps repel them along with repelling mosquitoes & bitingflies.

We offer Wellness Plans that provides low monthly payments and can help save money onvaccines, testing, and physical exams!

Cat Vaccines

Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calcivirus, &Panleukopenia (FVRCP)
This combination vaccine helps protect againstfeline distemper & highly contagious respiratory viruses which can make thepet very ill & can be potentially fatal.

Feline Leukemia (Felv)
Feline leukemia virus adversely affects the cat’s body in many ways. It is the most common cause of cancer in cats. It may cause various blood disorders and may lead to a state of immune deficiency that hinders the cat’s ability to protect itself against other infections.

Feleuk/FIV Testing (Feline Leukemia/FelineImmunodeficiency Virus)
Detects if pet has either one of these diseases. Either one of these diseases can cause the pet to have a life long sickness and long term care. They can both be potentially fatal.

Fecal Testing
